「(何かに)答える」意味のとき、answer you / the phone / your question と直接、目的語を取る。前置詞 to は名詞の場合 ( an answer to something) と、何かに一致する、上司などの要請に答えて説明する、ペットが名前に反応する意味のときにつける。もうひとつ、answering と言うなら、これの前にカンマ、あるいは while が必要で、少々大げさな表現になってくる。

ほかの箇所と同様に、other than の後でも that なら省略可、what は省略不可。
